American Forces Targeted a 'Big Facility' in Venezuela, Trump Claimed Without Offering Details.

Ex-President Donald Trump has stated that US forces targeted a "major plant" in Venezuela in recent days. However, the former president offered no details on the exact nature or location of the strike, and there has been no further clarification from his camp.

Vague Comments Made In a Radio Show

"We just eliminated – I don't know if you saw – they have a big plant, where the ships come from. Two nights ago, we took it out. So we hit them with significant force," Trump reportedly said to Republican donor and supermarket owner John Catsimatidis on Friday.

Possible Significance of a Confirmed Strike

Should a American strike were to be verified, it would represent the initial land strike since the US Department of Defense initiated a buildup of American strike forces in the Caribbean region to disrupt drug traffickers that the former administration asserts operate under the orders of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

This initial mission of the force deployment has evolved into a quarantine aimed at hindering the country's crude oil shipments.

Social Media Footage and Administration Statements

Trump has for weeks indicated that American military units are poised to widen the military campaign by attacking objectives within Venezuela, a move that would in theory require congressional approval.

Online video posted on social media on 24 December appeared to show an detonation reportedly from an industrial zone in a Venezuelan state. However, the video or the facility has not been independently verified.

An administration official reportedly told a media outlet that the former president was describing a drug facility in his remarks.

Response and Ongoing Strategic Posture

The Caracas administration has issued no statement on the alleged strike the former president described. Additionally, there have been no independent reports from within the country regarding it.

The buildup of US military in the area – a stance some have referred to as a sea blockade – constitutes the most expansive maritime enforcement action of his time in office.

Administration officials have avoided from describing the operation as a blockade, but have confirmed that approximately 15,000 personnel are stationed across the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, including a carrier strike group, F-35 aircraft, and law enforcement vessels to enforce current sanctions.
